Michael Rennie has 25 years experience at the leading edge of management innovation and for many years has been the Global Leader of McKinsey’s Organisation Behaviour practice, which covers organization performance including innovation.
In this keynote, Michael shared his findings resulting from 10 years and 30 million dollars worth of research. He said that people are the same regardless of which corner of the world he or she is from. To reflect on this, he asked the audience to pick the most productive time of their lives and share it with each other. He noted that our productive times usually consist of big, scary, almost impossible goals but meaningful ones and can be well accomplished through developing harmony in the team.
Afterwards, Michael shared the theory behind this finding: Maslow’s hierarchy of needs; 1) Survival 2) Belonging 3) Customers 4) Company or Achievement and 3 sub-levels of Self-Actualisation:Growth, Society and Planet. He shared that the majority of peoplevalue a sense of belonging and self-actualisation over everything else.
In conclusion, Michael asserted that high performance is a combination of big, scary goals and belonging to a loving and supporting team. If the goals are not scary enough, there cannot be high performance.

"Without a doubt the best conference in Australia with a delightful mix of creativity and big thinking bringing together an eclectic group of industry, community and education leaders. Once again, I’ve come away enthused by new ideas, more aware of future trends, and heartened by the kindness of humanity. We all have a role to play and it should be a collective one." Kerry Anderson, Founder of Operation Next Gen
"Conferences are boring. Creative Innovation is more like a rodeo for ideas, and you are guaranteed to leave wanting to make the world better for everyone." Andrew Despi, A.kin

"Creative Innovation 2019 was one of the most well-organised events I’ve ever taken part in. From beginning to the end, every detail had been planned through and taken care of. Secondly, are the production values. As a result, it was possible to attend all the sessions without suffering conference burn-out, happy in the knowledge that the next piece of content was guaranteed to delight and challenge the senses."
