Chairman Australia Post & AGL; Chancellor of Deakin University
John Stanhope was appointed Chairman of Australia Post in late 2012 – following a business career that started in the Postmaster General’s Department in 1967 and included senior executive and board roles at Telstra.
Mr Stanhope was Telstra’s CFO and Group Managing Director, Finance, from 2003 until his retirement in 2011. He also served as an Executive Director on the Telstra Board from May 2009 to December 2011. During his time at Telstra, Mr Stanhope managed the Federal Government’s T3 sale of Telstra shares, and he was Telstra’s lead in negotiating the Definitive Agreements with the Federal Government and NBN Co to establish the National Broadband Network.
Mr Stanhope is also currently; Chancellor of Deakin University, Chairman of the Bionics Institute, Chairman of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Chairman of the Port of Melbourne, Chairman of the Advisory Council G100 and a Director of AGL Energy Limited
